I think Better Homes and Gardens magazine hit the nail on the head when they called this bathroom a “Small Wonder” in their writeup about our little bathroom—they featured it as a best bathroom renovation awhile back. This was the first bathroom we gutted and we took our time to get every detail just right. In these small spaces, it’s the little details that make big differences. The adjacent wall is shared with the stairwell down to the basement so we were able to steal a little extra space there for storage. Details include heated flooring, exposed plumbing in the shower, a medicine cabinet cleverly hidden behind a picture frame, and hand cut 6 by 12-inch marble tiles for the shower. Also, we stole the window from the potting shed—it matches the windows on the third floor and worked perfectly here. Finally, the top portion of the door was removed and privacy glass installed to allow sunlight to brighten the back hallway.
