While the bees are busy hoarding their stash for the cooler months on the horizon, we too are buzzing around trying to get as much accomplished in the garden before we’re stuck inside for the winter. It’s been an amazingly pleasant summer but all good things must come to an end. The second planting of beans is already producing a ridiculous amount and we should have a new crop of cucumbers soon. The tomatoes are still producing almost perfect fruit though the plants wouldn’t win any beauty contests!
But the big news is the potting cottage is coming along great. Since the last time you saw it, the floor and framing has been installed and this past weekend, the trusses went up. A couple of rainy weekends allowed for them to be built down in the barns and then hauled up to the garden in the truck.
Four windows across the front and a unique roof line will allow lots of natural light inside.
The garden plan started with little scribble on a note pad about 10 years when we moved into Kraemer House. It’s evolved over the years and this is the last piece of the puzzle in the overall plan.
Having an organic garden means lots of beneficial insects like this happy praying mantis…
…and honey bees.
